The Intercontinental Shimao Shanghai Wonderland is Futuristic
Today I read an article about a new and spacious theme park, which will be under development in China soon, called The Intercontinental Shimao Shanghai Wonderland. This, what will be the first luxury underground hotel- or “ground scraper”-is being developed by the Shanghai Shimao Property Group.
The spectacular, nineteen-storey tall, luxury hotel, being designed by U.K.-based engineering firm Atkins, will be built upon the foot of Shanghai’s Tianmashan, a 328-foot (100-meter) abandoned quarry and will be housing 380 rooms. Only three floors of this unbelievable hotel will rest above the ground on the crater, leaving the other 16 floors of the hotel in a pit.
As if an underground sleeping experience in this hotel is not enough, the Shimao Shanghai Wonderland will add an underwater restaurant, a ten-meter-deep aquarium and an athletic water sports complex. This is just the start, in the 100-meter-deep pit you’ll also find 60-meter-tall glass curtains that resemble a waterfall. Surrounding cliffs will provide rock climbing and bungee jumping for visitors.
Expected to open in 2014 or 2015, this spectacular “ground scraper” is part of a larger project by Shanghai Shimao Property Group, which plans to develop Shimao Shanghai Wonderland, a massive theme park.
It is expected that you will be able to enjoy your vacation in this underground hotel in 2014-2015 for a price starting at a mere $320 per night.
