Just A Personal Note!
From a very early age I was greatly attracted to beautiful and spectacular hotels and dreamed of travelling to far away places and exotic locations. Getting to know different cultures and finding out how people lived on the other side of the world intrigued me. Although my dreams about travelling remained at only dreams, at least.... so far, my attraction to beautiful hotels I could not put aside. It was this passion that eventually led me to a beautiful career in one of the most dynamic and exciting environment to work in "The Hospitality Industry".
Straight from college, I decided to start my hotel career in one of the best and most luxurious hotels in the heart of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. In those days this particular hotel was the second home to many famous stars. Here I learned what Hospitality was and is all about! I learned to provide service beyond guest's expections and was taught that the word "NO" was not part of the vocabulary in our company. Words or slogans like "Empowerment", "Service with a Smile", "Anticipating Guest's Needs", "Every Guest Leaves Satisfied" etc. etc., they were drilled into every staff member and Bill Marriott even wrote a book about The Spirit to Serve: Marriott's Way
I loved my work! However, there has been a downside to my decision to start a career in the 5***** segment of the hotel industry. This downside is that I have become spoiled! With all the luxury and service minded attitude I was used to having around me, it now makes it difficult for me to be satisfied with less whenever I go on holiday. No matter how hard I try not to, when I check into a hotel, I find myself subconsciously observing how people perform their duties, checking the cleanliness of the room and presence of amenities one could expect to find, the efficiency and friendliness of staff, the quality of the restaurants and their service etc. I found the fact that I did not seem to be able to switch off when on holidays, quite annoying at times as I wanted to be like anyone else and enjoy my holidays. Now I have come to accept this and put it down to my passion for hospitality! It is this same passion that made me decide to start this blog.
Now my career in the hospitality has most likely ended, I still want to keep up-to-date and remain involved with this dynamic and fascinating industry by sharing interesting news,
reviews about some of the most beautiful hotels and travel locations.
