The Mardan Palace Hotel, voted the best luxury hotel of 2010, has run into a spot of trouble. The power board in the Turkish town of Antalya has cut the luxury hotel's electricity supply because they haven't paid a $3 million (Rs 13.5 crore) electricity bill yet.
Till they clear the bill, which comes to about $300,000 per month, The Mardan Palace Hotel will have to power its 546 rooms, 10 restaurants, 11 bars and the Mediterranean's largest pool via generators. Can you imagine what the bill for that will be?
The opulent hotel cost $1.4 billion to build and opened in May 2009 with a $35 million launch party with a star cast including socialite Paris Hilton, Hollywood stars Richard Gere, Sharon Stone and Monica Bellucci and singers Mariah Carey, Seal and Tom Jones.
